About Mladenovac: By legend the name comes from a man called Mladen, who settled here with his two brothers after the Battle of Kosovo. The brothers later parted, and the place where Mladen stayed took his name. The first official record of a settlement here is in the Ottoman census of 1528. It has been one of Belgrade's municipalities since 1971.
Mladenovac is one of the seventeen city municipalities of Belgrade, in the northern part of lower Šumadija, between 113 and 518 metres above sea level. It takes in most of the basin of the Veliki Lug, a left tributary of the Kubršnica, with the semi-mountainous edge of Kosmaj to the west. It is bordered by Sopot, Grocka, Smederevo, Smederevska Palanka, Topola and Aranđelovac. The climate is moderate continental, averaging 10.7 °C and 649 mm of rainfall a year. The town itself sits in the centre of the municipality at 138 metres, and the position is a good one: the Belgrade–Niš–Sofia railway runs through it, as does the Belgrade–Niš motorway, with the trunk road to Mladenovac branching off at Mali Požarevac. From Mladenovac, regional roads to Smederevo and Smederevska Palanka branch off the Kragujevac road, so it is well connected to the towns around it. Belgrade is 54 km by motorway, or 56 km via Ralja and Avala.
