A piano weighs between 200 and 500 kg, dislikes vibration and humidity, and has to stay level while it is carried. It is not a job for a general moving crew. We move pianos across Belgrade and Serbia with people trained for it, the right equipment and cover against damage.
What a piano move involves
- A crew of three or four, up to six for the heaviest instruments
- Proper equipment — piano dollies with rubber wheels, straps, skids and slings
- Padded protection — quilted covers, corner protectors, bubble wrap
- An access survey — doorways, turns, stairs, lift dimensions, checked before the day
- A tail lift on the vehicle for the heavier instruments
- A cushioned load, secured so the instrument does not move or vibrate in transit
- Placement in the new room, not just delivery to the door
- Cover against breakage and mechanical damage

The range depends on weight, the floor, the number of stairs and the distance. Tell us the make and model if you know it — that alone usually settles the weight.
Stairs, lifts and doorways
Most of the work happens before the piano is touched. A standard lift will not take a grand, and many older Belgrade stairwells turn too tightly for an upright to go round the corner upright. We check the route in advance and decide whether the instrument goes on its side on skids, whether the legs and lyre come off a grand, or whether the whole thing has to go out through a window — rare, but it happens, and it is better known a week ahead than on the morning.
After the move
A piano needs to settle in the new room before it is tuned — usually two to three weeks, so that the timber adjusts to the humidity and temperature. Tuning straight after transport is money wasted. We do not tune, but we will tell you when to book someone who does.

Do you take a grand piano apart?
The legs and lyre come off where the route requires it, and go back on at the other end. The action and the case are not touched.

Should I have it tuned afterwards?
Yes, but not immediately — give it two to three weeks in the new room first.
Is the instrument insured?
Yes, against breakage and mechanical damage in transit.
