Heavy and awkward item removals in Belgrade

Safes, pianos, ATMs, storage heaters, sunbeds, machinery, stone planters — items where the weight, the size or the fragility changes how the job is done. They need a different vehicle, more people and equipment an ordinary removal does not carry. Done wrong they are expensive, and they are dangerous.

What counts as a heavy or awkward item

Not simply "something heavy". It is any item where the weight, the dimensions or the fragility change the method.

• Pianos and uprights — an upright is 180–300 kg, a grand over 400 kg, and the weight is not evenly spread. See piano removals.
• Safes — from a 50 kg domestic safe to an office safe over 500 kg. What decides the job is the stairs and what the floor will take.
• ATMs, tills and vending machines — heavy, and they must not be tilted past a set angle.
• Storage heaters — full of fireclay blocks, emptied before they travel because they cannot be carried whole safely.
• Sunbeds, exercise machines and industrial machinery — see also gym equipment removals.
• Concrete planters, stone slabs and sculpture — small in volume, very heavy, and easily chipped.
• Art and antiques — not heavy, but irreplaceable: art transport.

How the work is done

• Checked before we set off — weight, dimensions, floor, lift, and the width of doors and stairs. On a heavy item we measure the narrowest point, because that is where the job either goes through or stops.
• A truck with a hydraulic tail lift — the load is wheeled onto the lift and lowered, not heaved into the vehicle by hand. That is the single biggest difference from an ordinary removal.
• Trolleys, straps and harnesses, so the weight is spread across the crew rather than carried by one person's back.
• The route protected first — stairs, walls, door frames and the lift are covered before anything moves. Damage to the building happens more often than damage to the item.
• Strapped down in the vehicle. An unsecured safe in a van is a danger to the load and to the van.
• Enough people. On this kind of work we do not economise on the crew — it is the only way it stays safe.

What we need to know to quote

On this kind of item a price over the phone with no detail is not a serious price. To quote accurately and send the right vehicle we need:

• what the item is and, if you know it, how much it weighs;
• the floor at both addresses, whether the lift works — and whether the item will even go into the lift;
• the width of the narrowest door, and whether there is a tight turn on the stairs;
• whether the vehicle can reach the entrance, or it has to be carried through a courtyard or a pedestrian zone;
• a couple of photographs of the item and the way in — that speeds a quote up more than anything else.

What decides the price

The starting price is RSD 1,000 per item, but on heavy loads it rarely stays there. What raises it:

• Weight and the number of movers needed — the biggest single factor.
• A floor with no lift — on a heavy item every storey tells, and it is often the whole reason the job takes twice as long.
• The vehicle — a truck with a tail lift is charged differently from a van.
• Dismantling — machines, bar counters and some equipment have to come apart before they come out.
• Additional cover for higher-value items, agreed in advance.
