A move is stressful for an animal in a way it is not for you: the smells go, the furniture goes, and strangers carry the sofa out of the door. We have been moving households with pets for thirteen years, locally and abroad, and there is no surcharge for it.
Which animals travel
- Dogs — any size, in a crate or on a lead with you
- Cats — always in a closed carrier
- Small pets — rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters
- Birds — parrots, canaries and others, in a covered cage
- Fish — in sealed containers, about half filled
- Exotics — snakes, tortoises, lizards, with the right documentation
Preparing the animal
- Two to four weeks before: leave the carrier out in the living room and feed the animal in it, so it stops being a trap and becomes furniture.
- See the vet: a check-up, vaccinations up to date, and a mild sedative only if the vet recommends one.
- Microchip and papers: essential for an international move, and worth checking for a local one.
- Do not feed two to three hours before the journey.
- Bring the familiar things — a blanket, a toy, the bed. The smell of the old home is what settles an animal in the new one.
- On the day: keep the animal in one closed, quiet room while the crew works, and move it last.

Taking a pet into the EU
For an EU destination an animal normally needs a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination given after the chip, and a health certificate issued close to the date of travel; some countries add requirements of their own. Rules change, so confirm the current ones with your vet and the destination country's authority before you book. We will plan the journey around what they tell you — including where the van stops, because on a long run that matters more than anything else in the animal's day.
