What to plan for
- Two borders on the way. The route transits North Macedonia, which is outside the EU, so the inventory is prepared for two crossings rather than one. We do this run often and it does not add meaningfully to the journey.
- Motorway all the way to Thessaloniki. Seven hours of driving means a single-day job for most addresses in northern Greece; Athens is a two-day transport.
- Holiday flats. Furnishing an apartment on the coast is one of the most common jobs on this route, and for a partial load groupage is far cheaper than a dedicated van.
- Summer traffic. Between June and September the crossings and the coastal roads are busy, so we plan the departure early and keep the schedule realistic.

Paperwork and customs
Greece has been in the EU since 1981 and is in the Schengen area; Serbia is in neither, and the route also transits North Macedonia, which is outside the EU. We prepare the inventory for both crossings — Preševo–Tabanovce and Bogorodica–Evzoni.
Moving into the EU falls under the rules on the transfer of normal residence: personal belongings may enter free of duty and VAT where the conditions are met, typically that you have owned and used them for at least six months. Relief from duty is not the same as the absence of a procedure — we prepare the paperwork and clear both borders for you.
