What to plan for
- Short enough for a single day. Szeged is two hours away and Budapest four, so loading and delivery normally happen on the same day and you pay for one day of work rather than two.
- Motorway the whole way. The E75 runs from Belgrade to the Horgoš–Röszke crossing and on to Budapest, which makes timings predictable.
- Student moves. A bed, a desk, a wardrobe and a dozen boxes is the most common load on this route, and groupage costs a fraction of a dedicated van.
- Budapest parking. In the inner districts stopping in front of the building has to be arranged in advance; we sort that out before the vehicle arrives.

Paperwork and customs
Hungary is in the EU and in the Schengen area; Serbia is in neither, so a customs procedure applies in both directions. For a change of residence you will need an inventory of your belongings, proof of residence (the lakcímkártya or the de-registration document) and your passport. The quickest crossing is Horgoš–Röszke on the E75, with Kelebija–Tompa as the alternative.
Moving into the EU falls under the rules on the transfer of normal residence: personal belongings may enter free of duty and VAT where the conditions are met, typically that you have owned and used them for at least six months. Relief from duty is not the same as the absence of a procedure — we prepare the inventory and handle the border.
