Bubble wrap is still the best protection there is for anything fragile. The air trapped between two layers of plastic absorbs the knocks and vibration that break crockery, glass and screens in transit. On any move with a kitchen in it, this is the second thing on the list after boxes.
What it is for
- Crockery and ceramics — plates, cups, vases, figurines
- Glass — panes, mirrors, framed pictures
- Electronics — televisions, computers, audio equipment, small appliances
- Art and antiques — anything valuable enough to need care
- Musical instruments — guitars, violins, drums
- Jewellery and watches — small and valuable

How much, and which ply
Two-ply is enough for most things. Three-ply has a thicker air layer and is what you want when an item must not be marked at all — porcelain, frames, screens.
- 5 m² — a few fragile pieces, or a dinner service for six.
- 10 m² — the whole kitchen of a one-bedroom flat.
- 30 m² (mini roll) — a smaller flat in full, with some to spare.
- 120 m² (roll) — houses, businesses and moves with a lot of glass.
The bubbles go against the item, not away from it. That is what does the cushioning, and it is the mistake we see on almost every move where people have packed for themselves.
Packing with it
- Bubbles facing inwards, always.
- Wrap each piece separately rather than bundling several together.
- Fill the gaps in the box — an item that can move will move.
- Plates travel on edge, like records, not stacked flat.
- Mark the box FRAGILE on the side, where it will be read.
Frequently asked questions
How much do I need for a dinner service for six?
About 5–8 m², plus a box and some paper for the gaps.
Is bubble wrap recyclable?
Ordinary bubble wrap is plastic and not biodegradable, but it can be recycled at a recycling point. It is also reusable if the bubbles are intact.
Small bubbles or large?
Small bubbles (about 10 mm) give a finer, closer wrap for crockery and figurines. Large bubbles cushion better against heavier knocks, so they suit appliances and furniture.
Can I use it more than once?
Yes, as long as the bubbles have not burst. Keep it folded and dry between moves.
Two-ply or three-ply?
Two-ply for most things; three-ply where the item must not be marked — porcelain, frames, screens.
Do you deliver?
Yes, free in Belgrade on orders over RSD 8,000, carried up to the flat.
